With The Beatles is definitely not not the best Beatles studio album, in actuality it is arguably their least good non Yellow Submarine album. But that isn’t to say I don’t enjoy listening to this early classic in it’s 2009 fabulous remastered format nor is it to imply that this album doesn’t have any fine songs on it because that is definitely not the case.

But I do believe that when thinking only about the 8 Beatles originals on the album, it’s probably the worst collection of original songs the Fab Four ever released on a record (the very underrated Beatles For Sale has a far better selection of eight originals in my opinion) on the other hand, the covers on With The Beatles are pretty good (superior to the covers on Beatles For Sale.)

My most favorite originals to listen to on the With The Beatles Remastered CDs are the first 3 tracks. In particular I’ve been enjoying track number two, “All I’ve Got To Do” in mono. It really sounds great.

Another original that has actually been growing on me a bit is track #9, “Hold Me Tight.” Paul wrote and sang lead vocals on this one and he’s been very dismissive of it. And while I’ll agree the song isn’t perfect, I think it is a good time.

“Till There Was You” is my favorite cover on the album. It’s a very sickly sweet love song but I think in some strange way it works because of that. The LP’s last song, “Money” is a great way to end the album. When I listen closely to the remastered mono version I realize that the song rocks much harder than I ever realized. It’s a fantastic reminder of how hard The Beatles could rock the house even in 1963.

For most of the CDs I do prefer the The Beatles Stereo Box Set mixes when it comes the remastered Beatles box sets but I do think that this album sounds a bit better in mono.
